VA BENEFITS
Yes, You Can Use Your VA Benefit More Than Once

Key Takeaways
One of the most common things veterans tell us: “I already used my VA loan.” As if it were a coupon — one and done.
It isn’t. Your VA benefit is reusable for life. The details live in a word most lenders never explain: entitlement.
How entitlement actually works
Entitlement is the amount the VA guarantees on your behalf — it’s what lets you buy with nothing down. When you use a VA loan, part of your entitlement is tied up in that home. What happens next depends on your situation:
01
Sold & Paid Off
You sold the home and paid off the loan. Your entitlement can be fully restored. Apply for restoration, and your benefit is back — as if you’d never used it.
02
Paid Off but Kept
You paid off the loan but kept the home. You can request a one-time restoration of entitlement. This is how veterans keep a paid-off home and still buy again with a VA loan.
03
Still Have VA Loan
You still have the VA loan. You may have remaining entitlement — enough to buy a second home with a VA loan while keeping the first. Whether that works depends on your remaining entitlement, the new purchase price, and the county. This is exactly the kind of scenario where we pull your Certificate of Eligibility and show you where you stand — with VA loans, it’s all about the story.
What later uses cost
With nothing down, the funding fee is 2.15% on first use and 3.3% after first use. Put 5% or more down and it drops to 1.5%; put 10% or more down and it’s 1.25% — the same on every use. And it’s waived entirely for veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 10% or more, and for surviving spouses — the same waiver rules as your first use.
